0007: Winter Classic Weekends

Lately, it seems the NHL Winter Classic is the most popular source of inspiration amongst concept artists. In that spirit, today begins a new series called Winter Classic Weekends. Every weekend — until I run out — you can find new concept art for the Winter Classic. It won't be limited to the 2013 game in Michigan, though obviously that's the basis for today's design by Ryan Haslett. He's gone all out to create uniforms and a logo.
Ryan was also involved the Winter Classic concept below. His graphic treatments and Winter Classic logo were used by Josh Gold to complement his sweater designs.

These look solid. I like the old Leaf thirds though, but that's just personal preference.
Love the first Toronto jersey and the second Wings jersey. Really cool concepts all around though Ryan and Josh. I'm loving the new concepts section, these daily updates are awesome!

Can't see the Leafs wearing a Rangers-style squared-off yoke, unless they go with stripes all the way up the sleeves. And I really, really, REALLY hope the Wings do not go with "vintage white" - I cannot stress this enough. It's got no place on any modern, synthetic-blend uniforms; leave it on the genuinely aged and discolored sweaters of the distant past.

I love the subtle touch of using the Michigan State Highway outline for the captains letters like the Flyers this past Classic. I knew exactly when I saw that diamond what the artist was trying to do.
