0165: Real Hurricane Flags

Occasionally on this site, the Carolina Hurricanes' secondary logo will be criticized for not being true to its namesake. As any Gulf or Atlantic coast resident can tell you, the red flag with the black square in the middle pops up on beaches when a tropical storm threatens. However, when a hurricane is on the move, a second flag is added beneath the first one. In other words, technically, the secondary logo is representing a tropical storm rather than a hurricane. Chris Ruffolo's concept logo may be among the best I've seen at incorporating both flags. It could use a little more polish (and perhaps a rightward lean) but I really love the idea of making the two flags form an H. Very well done!

0164: Give It More Electricity!

I can't explain it, but today feels like a Tampa Bay Lightning kind of day. And ever prolific, Brian Brideau has been working on a few different ideas. I'm sharing not one, not two, but three of them with you today!

Same idea for two different eras of Lightning hockey. And this last one is here just because I think it's too funny.

0163: Ottawa, Bring Back the Black

The Ottawa Senators reintroduced black jerseys this season with their new Heritage Uniform (designed by Jacob Barrette). But I'm among those still longing for those great black roads from the '90s. Anyone else think Brendan Anderson's take could work well as a home sweater in the Reebok era? Come on, Senators, you know you want to!

0162: Revisiting the Winter Classic

It occurs to me we haven't had a Winter Classic Weekend in quite a while. I'm bringing that back today. It also occurs to me that we still haven't seen an actual 2013 Winter Classic logo yet! Justin Cox is happy to provide both for us today. He's created a beautiful set of uniforms along with an impressive logo. Overall, one of the better concepts I've seen in quite some time!

0161: Blue Jackets Re-Bourne

The Re-Bourne series took a brief break during Minor League Week, but Andrew Bourne is back with his take on the Columbus Blue Jackets. He didn't send me a description on this one so you'll have to fill in the blanks on your own.

0160: Rockalanche Redux

The highest-rated concept ever posted on Icethetics came on a Freak Out Friday just over four months ago. It was Ross Taylor's Colorado Rockalanche — a fusion of the Avalanche and the Rockies, which came decades before them. It keeps coming up again and again so Ross keeps working on it. Today, he brings us a revised uniform set complete with a brand new wordmark.

0159: The '70s in Milwaukee

Minor League Week wraps up with a retro Milwaukee Admirals concept from Justin Nahhas. The logo used in this design dates back to 1973 when the Ads joined the United States Hockey League. By the way, this team has a lineage which goes all the way back to 1940. Fascinating to think how long some minor league franchises have been around even as we watch so many more come and go every season.
