Winnipeg Jets officially unveil uniforms / Jets
They're here. The Winnipeg Jets officially unveiled their uniforms today. I don't really have a lot to say on the matter at this point. Give me a day or two and I'll get back to you with my thoughts on it.
Back of new Jets jerseys / CBCThe unveiling ceremony was held this morning at 11 AM central at 17 Wing in Winnipeg and was well-attended by local media. You can read more details about the design in the club's official release.
A few pictures have started turning up on Twitter, so that's all I have to share at the moment. I'm sure it won't be long before we have something more official from the team.
Both jerseys feature a unique double-striping pattern on the sleeves that hasn't been seen before on Reebok Edge jerseys in the NHL. The number and letter styles are also new are very modern.
Like I said, I'll get into my analysis later in the week when I have a little more time to dedicate. For now, feel free to share your thoughts on the new jersey designs. I'm sure we're all curious to see how they're being received.

Chris
Now a closer look at those new Jets threads.

Now what do you think?

I liked the leaked Chinese made jersey better...Jets might want to break out the 1980's Jets jersey as the home 3rd alternate ASAP..and morph into those eventually..
Not to be nitpicky or anything Chris, but your renderings are missing the light blue band at the bottom edge of the sleeves on both jerseys. As for my opinion, i dont like how the arm stripes go over the shoulder color on the road jersey. it looks fine on the home because its all one color. it just doesnt look right on the white with blue shoulders
I like how the road white kind of looks like the old Jets jersey of '79-'90 - but not an exact duplicate. (http://www.sportslogos.net/logo.php?id=dkc1gqj1exxiijn56fvbe9aar) Its not exact, but i like how it looks.
Pretty dull. The only thing I like is the arm stripes. They aren't stupid-looking or following some kind of current trend that will look dated in a year, though, so that's a plus. Apart from being dull, the only real criticism I have is that the font doesn't fit the motif at all. The most appropriate font for this, in my opinion, would have been the old-style, blocky, sticky-tape font.
Well, I'm Impressed. I personally think the counterfeits we saw last week would have looked better on them, but we still got a very Unique Jersey compared to other Teams. The Away Jersey does need some tweaking though. Meanwhile, the Logo works and doesn't work at the same time.
Pros:
-Nice Balance of Navy and Powder Blue on the Home Jersey
-The Top half of the Away Jersey looks correct
-Numbers and Lettering are Fine
Cons:
-Either the Away's Arm Stripes or the Arm Yoke (Shoulder Yoke Anyone??)
-The Lack of Red
-However, the Silver looks forced on the Away Jersey
Overall: I'd say the Anticipation and Rush to make this Jersey were the keys to it not being perfect, though I will say from looking at the Official Pictures on the Jets site, it is going to be a Sharp Jersey.
3.5 Out of 5.
It looks like they have a bullseye on their chest..
Stephen: Thanks for catching that! It's been fixed. Might have to refresh your browser to see it.
They look better than I expected them to look. They look alright, they could've been better. I prefer a teams jersey colours to blend in well with the logos, for a team to feature an extra colour in the logos that is not featured anywhere else on the jerseys just throws the balance of the look of the jersey off IMO. This applies to my Canucks too.
i like it but the stripings a bit thick for my liking and i wouldve used another font. i wish the fake CBJ knock off was their actual jersey instead. This one is still ok
Here's what I don't get. At the unveiling, the arm stripes on the player models are all positioned well below the bottom of the centre logo. I think this looks odd. But if you look at the online pictures of the jersey for sale, the arm stripes come at least one-third of the way up the centre logo. What gives?
Boring, boring, pretty flipping boring!!
This actually exceeded my expectations.
I also don't understand how some of you are saying that the Chinese counterfeits look better. If anything, those look amateurish and uninspired...; Oh, wait, they're just out to make a quick buck, what do they care what they look like.
I'm getting the white one, as it provides a nice contrast, and for those unaware, they're not the first team to do the sleeve stripes intersecting a full sleeve shoulder yoke (glances at LA)
W.Schlagel: I think in the photos the stripes appear lower because the players aren't wearing equipment, and the sleeves sag off their shoulders. By the same token, the secondary marks kind of hang down on their shoulder caps instead of sitting on top. Also it's possible these jerseys aren't fit to them: to me it seems they just gave everyone the same size jersey...xxxl or something. Ladd's is definitely too big for him (look at the sleeve length and how it hangs past his butt) while Antropov looks to fit a little better cause he's a bigger dude. Ladd and Nik appear to be wearing the same size jersey though they themselves are not.
I like. First impressions are good. It improves the logo which is what I was hoping it would do.
These jerseys look perfectly fine. I can't believe some people are complaining! There are lot of other Jersey's to complain about like Ottawa, Pittsburgh and Calgary. These Jets jersey's look great. Slowly the NHL Jeresys are returning to respectable designs.
I think first off we have to agree that when a jersey makes a debut, someone will always be disappointed. That said, I think True North did a solid job on the design of these jerseys. Sure, they aren't exciting. They don't have a "wow" factor but the fact is that ownership had to take a safe road for the first few years. Taking too many risks on a jersey could bring instant negativity to the organization.
From a business standpoint, I think they had a A-/B+ type of day. These new jerseys will help put down an image foundation that the ownership group can build on (with potentially using classic jerseys later on). The number and letter combinations turned out well. Overall, I like them and could easily see myself wearing one. Less is more in design.
Overall, I like it, but if they had switched the shades of blue on the home jersey, I'd give it a better grade. That's the only complaint I have.
The sleeve striping is awesome! Very unique and in my opinion make the uniforms interesting and stand out. Not the hugest fan of the logo but seeing the overall uniform now I am pleased. A hundred times better than the uniforms the 1996 Jets wore.
Epic Success! I'm glad they didn't decide to go bold and modern with something crazy. always remember K.I.S.S Keep It Simple Stupid and you can't go wrong.
I like the Jerseys. Both of them. I like the white the most. I enjoy the striping around the arm. I look forward to seeing these on the ice.
Home sweaters are nice, away sweaters are a disgrace,
Don't like how dark the blue is on the home jersey; it'll end up looking like black on TV. And, of course, the logo is terrible. But, I do like the style of the numbers and the names on the back.
I think Connor Sziklasi's design is much better.
i wonder what the alternate will look like...
I'll bet you anything, that the Jets farm team the IceCaps, will be wearing the exact same jersey designs except with the IceCaps logo on the front, and I'm sure those would look much nicer with that logo.
The two stripes on the sleeves of both jerseys look very pronounced, especially on the whites. Almost like they are supposed to get your attention. Was anything said about the meaning of the two stripes during the press conference?
To me, it makes sense that the two stripes could stand for the second coming of the Jets. Two stripes for Jets 2.0 kind of thing.
Terrible.
Did they hire the same same designer as the Blue Jackets used for their 3rd jerseys? They are identical!
their ok but the double stripping needs to go
I think it could do with a little bit more red, but not bad at all. I think the white jersey is quite stylish.
E. Lee: I suspect and hope you are correct and these will look different with equipment and proper sizing. The ones advertised for sale look much better. Maybe the prototypes are scarce in order to prevent leaks. And chances are someone was wearing Byfuglien's jersey who was likely disinvited from the show!
Awesome! I like how they've basically created 2 styles, one with the sleeve band and one without. So for those that like the band, they can buy white and for those that don't, they can buy blue. Personally I love how the light blue pops on the sleeves. Without the sleeve band, they look too bland to me.
Wondering, will the stripes be lost once gloves are put on? I hope the socks mimic the stripes.
As a season ticket holder, I'm pumped for the whites and will live with the blues.
Go Jets Go!
I like them a lot. I love the uniqueness of the double lower stripes - I don't think there is anything similar. I also actually prefer the road white to the home, because even though I haven't been a fan AT ALL of the Edge stripe/sleeve combo on jerseys like the old Florida and Edmonton, these go all the way around, and they really stand out. They make them almost seem more military, which is what they were going for. These are way better than any of the bootlegs we've seen. The logo is a bit dull, for sure, but those white roads are a winner. I look forward to seeing the socks - hope they do the same striping as the sleeves...
AWESOME !! BETTER THAN EXPECTED !! Love the whites...the light blue stripes on the sleeves absolutely POPS ...almost like 3D....Soooooo SWEEET !
This is just my opinion, but I think the jerseys would look a lot better if, on the home jersey, the white arm and waist stripes were turned silver, and on the road, the light blue and silver elements were reversed.
well i have mixed feelings about them. theyre not bad, i really like the double stripes, especially the road uniform better b/c its not so dark, however 2 things i dont like: 1. werent they not supposed to resemble in any shape or form of the knock off jerseys that were released, they may not be exactly the same but sure are a hell of alot alike (crest logo and usage of secondary logos as shoulder patches), which was somewhat expected anyway. 2 As much as i do like the roads i dont like the doulbe stripes circling the split colored sleeves. It looks like youre giatn armbands circling it or as though someone was wearing gauze with 2 pieces of tape straping it down(yea i know very strange analogy but thats as best as i can describe the way it looks to me lol).
Ok so thats my 2 sense. I cant wait to checkem out when i watch my flyers takem on for the 1st time in october.
Anyone else think that from the back (in the picture above) they look like old Tamp Bay jerseys? Give it 2 years and they'll have switched to a throwback set anyway, but in short; like the home jersey, the away jersey looks like a committee designed it...
Vahe, I'm betting the target thing is somewhat intentional. There was a bit of research in relation that came out a year or two back showing that if something looked like a target, most people were just conditioned to aim for it. In the study, hockey teams with circular logos did better, with opposing teams shooting into the goalie's chest more often. Turns out that the bran processes logos resembling targets like it would a target, which, as a result, affects the shot.
And before somebody yacks on about how NHLers wouldn't aim for it and know better, NHLers don't aim. They shoot. Their subconsious does the aiming. Thanks to all the training they've done, they don't consciously think about it anymore- which is very good. Your conscious mind is a lot slower, and, if you've been playing as long as these guys have, much, much less well trained. It's actually a big component of choking- the cliche of thinking too much relates to using your conscious mind rather than your unconscious one, which you haven't used to play hockey since you were a kid. So your shooting technique, aim, skating, whatever, goes back to what it was in Bantam. While you still have your adult strength, your hockey sense is diminished incredibly. If you're a player whose game relies on hockey sense like Joe Thornton, if you start thinking in pressure situations, you're screwed.
Anyhow, I'm sure that is a factor behind all the circular logos. Some teams like the Hurricanes , Bruins, Habs and so on didn't need to do anything, but I'm sure it was a factor for teams who have switched recently.
Now, back to the main subject. I like the homes. Great, classic uniform. I'm digging the double arm stripes, and despite it's overuse of late, I've always thought double blue was a great color scheme. Aways I'm less enthusiastic about. I'm still not sure about the stripe and full sleeve yoke thingy (there needs to be a term for that). Things crossing at right angles on a jersey doesn't sit well with me. It's not thin piping like on Nashville's, and they're sure as hell not using those stupid horns, so that's a plus. I think it's a feature that I could grow to like, if not love, once I get over the 'huh, that's odd' factor.
All in all, they're both very fitting and modern jerseys for a very modern team. I love the armbands, something never seen in the RBK Edge era ever before. I also like how a somewhat dissapointing logo, comes through and shows us up with a very new and surprising jersey. Huge fan of the navy sleeves. (thumbs up for a black alternate). Can't wait to see them play the habs (and these awesome jerseys) in HD.
darks = solid. Good color blue, good striping. i dig it. and they avoided the "tiny logo" trend (a la buffalo, Anaheim). The whites, however...look....terrible. the horizontal crossing over the vertical looks like referee sleeves. If they had just made the white an opposite of the dark, or left of the elbow striping, it would be way better. as is, it just looks silly. Obviously we'll have to wait to see them on the ice...but yeah. dark = nice. white = awkward. That's my judgement...but the logo is still fly.
I'm sorry but these things are brutal!
They look like the Missausage St Mike's Majors jerseys thrown through a wood chipper.
They are much better than I had expected...I like the double-striping BECAUSE it's a little different than what we're used to seeing...good job, Winnipeg!
The Counterfiet ones are better. Not a fan of the white ones mainly because I hate when teams use a color from the shoulders and run it all the way down the arms. It looks aweful. These are average jersey's. You could tell the where working with some time constraints. We all knew they were going to be rushed but didnt necessarily think theyd look rushed. I smell a new jersey and maybe logo redesign in two years.
The white ones look weird with the light blue double bands on the arms. So I like them. ;) Will probably get a white as I think it pops more.
I still don't see why some people can't wrap their heads around the idea of a logo featuring colours that are not in the jersey. You want to draw attention to the logo and that's exactly what happens when you have a prominent colour that isn't on the jersey. Take the 2008 team Canada uniforms for instance. They don't have black in the jerseys anywhere and that really makes the black in the logo standout. It really works.
They look like something that you'd pick out of the generic uniforms/logos selection in the Create a Team feature of a hockey video game. Hopelessly bland.
I totally agree with you Jeff, looked as though they were rushed a bit and alot of times when teams try to make a new identity with not as much time theyll usually use it as a marketing scheme to collect the input of the fans. now theres no dobut theyll sell only b/c its all they habe right now and the fans have waited soooo long that not all of them are thinking too much about the jerseys. however a yr or 2 down the road like you said and we may hear some talk bout a possible new look. And I can gurantee you we'll prob see almost half of the arena wearing the Selanne era jerseys, b/c they IMO were the best jerseys/logos they used in their history. When i think of the Jets identity i think of those jerseys b4 the 70s-80s and now the current ones.
I like the home sweater a lot more than the away one. I am not a fan of the double striping over top of the stripe down the arm. I would have liked it better if there was a yoke and than the double stripes.
Love the Jets' idea of using double blue. Very nice designs overall.
My only two critiques are this:
1. Block-style numerals would look a lot more appropriate. Even the vertical line cutting through each digit would give the Jets a unique military look.
2. On the whites, a shoulder-arm stripe looks out of place with arm stripes. A simple shoulder yoke would have been better, provided that the pants are polar(navy) blue.
I do hope that the team uses vertical piping on the side of their pants. Aviator blue with white trimming.
just another hideous color of blue to go along with Vancouver, Toronto, Tampa, San Jose, Rangers, Islanders, Florida, Edmonton, Columbus, Colorado, and Buffalo...
ugh. The NHL, and Reebok, have officially lost any and all creativity.
BRING BACK THE BLACK BOLTS!
