CHL Unveiling Edge Jerseys

Good morning everyone! It's 09-09-09 at 9:09 AM. Won't happen again for another 100 years.

It's going to be an incredibly busy day here at Icethetics today. As you may have read, all 60 CHL teams will be officially launching their new Reebok Edge jerseys. Yes, it's incredibly annoying to have them all coming out on the same day but we'll manage.

Here's how it's going to work. I will be monitoring league and team web sites and as I find pictures, they will be posted on Twitter only! As the day goes on I plan to assemble all of the image links in this post for quick and easy access.

If you run across any good pictures throughout the day that you'd like to share, check that they haven't already been posted before you email them to me. It'll make things go a lot smoother on my end as I try and gather information from five dozen teams.

I appreciate your help on what is sure to be a ridiculous day.

Stupid RBK... mostly copying those crappy NHL team designs... I don't know how many teams used Buffalo's shitty template...

To Matt: The Halifax Mooseheads already said they are planning to bring back the black "Halifax" scripted jerseys as a third next year so I'm guessing most teams will be bringing back the thirds.

It's odd to see so many teams with different styled home and away jerseys

Sep 9 · 4:02 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterSlam

They all look the same. You can go through each jersey in each league and you can tell which team has an NHL template. There is no originality anymore...

But why to they have to have that STUPID tail? Does it really help to keep the sweater out of the pants?

Sep 9 · 5:49 PM PDT | Unregistered CommenterWilly

i agree with dallas hick's comment on brandon and everett. the wheat striping on the the old jerseys were probably the most unique and imo the best around. how can they lose that but evrett keep their mountains? huge step down in my opinion

that missisauga majors jersey is horrible. dont mind owen sound attack jersey and just noticed that the mask in the calgary hitmen's logo roughly resembles the shape of alberta. also, hate the khnights new logo and cant help but notice the same design for a bunch of teams (moose jaw, swift current, niagara and maybe more).

I am glad to see that the Kelowna Rockets stuck pretty close to there pre-edge jersey although i would of loved it if they had taken there red third/mem cup jersey and made it there home jersey

jersey design that is.

Wins: Everett Silvertips, Kamloops Blazers, Lethebridge Hurricanes, Medecine Hat Tigers, Portland Winterhawks (But it's not their fault :P) Red Deer Rebels, Regina Pats, Seattle Thunderbirds, Tri-City Americans, Vancouver Giants, Brampton Batallion, Guelph Storm (even if the logo sucks), Kingston Frontenacs, Kitchener Rangers, Niagara IceDogs, Oshawa Generals, Ottawa 67's, Peterborough Petes, Saginaw Spirit, Soo Greeyhounds, Cape Breton Screaming Eagles, Chicoutimi Sags, Monctoon Wildcats, Quebec Remparts, Rimouski Oceanic, Rouyn Huskies, Shawinnigan Cataractes (the lightning bolts are a remainder of the town's nickname: la cité de l'énergie, the city of energy in english), Val d'Or Foreurs,

Draws: Calgary Hitmen, Kootenay Ice, Prince Albert Raiders (should be a winner, but the logo needs to be updated), Prince George Cougars, Saskatoon Blades, Spokane Chiefs (Even if i hate the habs, it looks weird to me to see an other logo on that sweater), Barrie Colts, Portland Whalers (away is superb, home not so), Windsor Spitfires, Acadie Bathurst Titan, Baie, Comeau Drakkar, Drummondville Voltigeurs, Halifax Moosehead, Montreal Junior, Victoriaville Tigres

Fails: Chilliwack Bruins, Edmonton Oil Kings (they should go with the old LA Kings colors IMHO), Kelowna Rockets, Moose Jaw Warriors (That logo looks lie it's been drawn by a 5 years old), Swift Current Broncos, Belleville Bulls, Erie Otters, Lonodon Knights, Mississauga Majors, Owen Sound Attack, Sarnia Sting, Sudbury Wolves, Gatineau Olympiques, Lewiston Maineiacs, PEI Rocket,St John Fog Devils

Should sue Reebok: Brandon Wheat Kings

well, my saginaw spirit went conservative, that makes me happy considering i talked to some players during shinnies this month and their vague description of the prototypes had me scared.
Some teams like soo look great. but man how did the brandon wheatkings lose their wheatsleeves? Way too many teams went vertical stripes and vertical sidepanels, and too many teams have identical design elements, reebok is preaching innovation, but really they are just trying to streamline their mechandise manufacturing to maximize their revenue, and now about 45 of the 60 in the CHL are no longer wearing hockey sweaters.

but man those oil kings sweaters look great!

Every time Reebok does a new league they outdo themselves with the sucky-ness. Some good innovations here, as they're rolling out a few new templates and variations on existing ones, as well as relaxing their control in allowing innovations like fade panels and custom stripes (Everett's mountains, whatever the heck is on Owen Sound's waists, etc.).

But still a lot of bad. The main handful of temps are still used way too often and each team ends up a recolor of another, and just a number of dumfoundingly bad asthetic choices. There's also a severe lack of teams using traditional striping compared to the NHL or AHL designs.

What. The. Heck. I'd be using stronger language if this weren't a family-friendly site. It's hard to screw up the Hitmen's look, but Reebok did it. The white jersey is decent, but the black is crap. Looks like the Oilers, it's so plain. They could have atleast done a Flames template, and I wwould've been happy. I'm going to have to bust some heads.

I'm glad the Rebels stayed the same after seeing some of these. I don't even mind the various NHL edge jerseys but man the CHL got some stinkers!

Oh and no thirds for sure this year but they should be back next year (was talking to Brent Sutter's son when I was buying my Rebels jersey. Brent's wife handles the merch and his son runs our website).

It's nice to see change. That being said. Hockey News I believe just did a ranking the jersey story and place the Brandon Wheat Kings number 1. In my mind they won that comp. far and square. But now with the new edge jersey's I think they would probably place dead last. What the hell was reebok thinking with that one...they should have tried to at least incorporate the wheat stocks like the old jersey. I mean they are the host team of the memorial cup this year, you'd think they'd get a better look than that

Our barberpoles!!!!! They got rid of our barberpoles :( :(

That is truely heart breaking for a 67s fan....

i think that black jersey is hidious... i liked the black third they had a few years back, but this is terrible!!!

I hate the knights new look too.

And when i look at the spitfires all i see is Alexander Ovechkin.

The screaming eagles look damn good though, classic look.

F*&King Reebok

The Giant's jersey looks pretty good. I like the American's jersey a lot. PG's new one is a step back, and the Hurricane's looks really bad. Didn't check out the OHL or QMJHL, yet.

Any body have any idea what the Green clover at the bottom of the sleeve on barrie`s away jersey represents...?

I like the Calgary whites, both Silvertips, Lethbridge homes, London whites, the stripes on Drummondville and Oceanic, and Rouyn-Noranda's homes. Nothing else really stood out as great.

The ones that made my eyes bleed include Barrie's whites, both Ottawa's, both Owen Sounds, the shoulders on Chicoutimi, both Gatineau, the wording on St. Johns, and the 'bolts on Shawinigan.

Okay, now that I've had a day, I like the Hitmen's jerseys way more.

Sep 10 · 4:46 PM PDT | Unregistered Commenterbackburner

Seeing how many teams used the Flyers (non-throwback) or Ottawa-Pittsburgh-Tampa Bay template was just a bit disturbing. Come on, couldn't they be more creative? At least the Hitmen did something a little different with the OPT - putting a striped pattern in the elbow section.

Even more bizarre was seeing some red-and-black (and even silver) teams using the Buffaslug template.

And did we really need MORE PIPING?!?

Finally, to my hometown team, the Plymouth Whalers... the Seattle Thunderbirds get to use the Hartford design, but you guys come up with THAT mess for your home blues? The road whites, with the lack of silver stripes, is okay enough...

Sep 10 · 4:53 PM PDT | Unregistered Commenterkyojikasshu

Wow most of the jersey are really bad !

Something that I will never understand ... how a team can choose 2 different layouts for there jersey ?!
Ok yes I can understand for a 3rd jersey ... but your 2 main ones should have the same templates with inverse colors thats it ... I'm maybe to traditional .... but all the good looking jersey are made (or inspired) from the past !!!
