Panthers 3rd Leaked!

That didn't take long. Remember how yesterday I said the Florida Panthers' new third jersey seemed leak-proof? Yeah, that's not true anymore.

Uni Watch, of all places, posted this sneak peek at the new threads.

Sneak peek at the Florida Panthers new third jersey

I was prepared to be disappointed by Florida this year, but based on this sliver of an image, I am only impressed. It feels somewhat like a carbon copy of the Blues' third jersey, which debuted last year, but I do like that jersey. Hopefully it can differentiate itself enough to stand out.

Looking forward to November 23 — the official launch date!

It's not red. I am disappoint.

Actually not bad. I think I'll like it

Nov 11 · 10:07 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterShawn

Then EA can finally give us our jersey code...

That sliver shows just enough for me to excited and profoundly worried about the jersey. We can all be pretty well assured its going to have a retro look...

I'm with BC, I'm disappointed that it's not red.

Nov 11 · 10:29 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterRyan

I was hoping the jersey would be red but interested in seeing what stripes they have on this jersey.

Nov 11 · 11:09 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterMasik

Yuck. Just fold this embarrassing franchise already.

Nov 11 · 11:22 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterG-Man

I was hoping for red. Or maybe even yellow. I hate thirds that are the same color as the regular jersey. kind of pointless otherwise

Nov 11 · 11:30 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterAdam Edgington

Agreed. They need a red alternate, since the other teams in the region (TB, ATL) already wear blue

Nov 11 · 11:39 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterPortugal

Is that PURPLE!?

Nov 11 · 11:42 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterIan

Would've liked to see some red in the jersey. I have to withhold judgment until I see the WHOLE jersey, not just a piece of it though.

I think it has the potential to be a good jersey, as plenty of teams continue to use the original Minnesota Wild jersey. It looks great for the Wild, the Blues' third is my favorite, so hopefully the Panthers impress us.

I wonder if it not being red means that they're going to be rebranding soon, going from blue and red to a double or triple blue color scheme. The new simplified logo would lead me that direction too.

I'm betting that if the fans respond positively to it, we see that as the home next year with a corresponding road and overall look.

Personally, I would be in favor of it. Double blue is neat, and one of my favorite looks. And I've never really liked their logo.

Looks like the Herald was right. They said dark blue with light blue accents in the style of Minnesota's third (now home) jerseys. Check out the link above for the full article.

Another Minnesota copycat. At least it looks apron strings free. Hey Chris, how about some Cartoons!! kidding.

Nov 11 · 2:54 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterDave Delisle

I don't see a big deal about this 3rd.

Nov 11 · 3:01 PM PST | Unregistered Commenterbwayblueshirt

I like the Introduction of a new logo.

Nov 11 · 3:07 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterBill

For once I thought one team would be able to resist and not "leak" the jersey before they launched! Haha Florida had been so good the past few months! Would have been cool to not have any idea of what it was when it would be released.

None the less, now that it is out, can't say I'm hatin' it so far. Reminds me of the Blues 3rd, like you pointed out, and in my opinion the Blues have won the Reebok age of jerseys. Albeit excluding the obvious better (original) jerseys i.e Habs, Hawks, Wings, Bruins etc..But definitely out of the teams that got "edged"...Blues win and now the Cats are up their as well.

Nov 11 · 3:14 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterCstephens

It couldn't be red. It would have been almost a carbon copy of the Wild's jersey, except swap the green with blue.

I wish there was some originality with NEW 3rds. Even the Wilds new third isn't all that great. Being inspired is one thing, completely ripping it off is another: Blues and Cats.

That said, I love the retros coming back this year!

Nov 11 · 3:24 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterMadeInMn

Because obviously the league needs another red jersey. 0.o

Nov 11 · 3:37 PM PST | Unregistered Commenterpsycloud

definitely not bad, but I hope this circle logo doesn't saturate the league as good as they look

Nov 11 · 3:48 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterDan

I look forward to this jersey. Hopefully it's original and doesn't look like Nashville's or St. Louis'

Nov 11 · 4:33 PM PST | Unregistered Commenterrhas2916

from what i can see it looks like a combo of atlanta and torontos jersey templates

Nov 11 · 4:46 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterShamaderder

I LOVE this 3rd!!

Nov 11 · 6:55 PM PST | Unregistered Commenterbwayblueshirt

It could be a lot worse. I like the logo, but i wish the would have used red on the jersey. I just dont get where the light blue came from.

Nov 11 · 7:46 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterGary Punzak

The revised logo in the third looks an awful lot like Elliot Strauss's re-brand of the Panthers.

Nov 11 · 10:14 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterJeff

there ARE a lot of red jerseys in the league right now. Considering that every team in the NHL has red, blue, or black in their color scheme (Phoenix is the closest to be an exception with brick red), there really isn't anything better if it's blue or if it's red.

What this SHOULD mean is that the team will be going in a new direction aesthetically if this jersey goes over well. Add a white version, and you can get rid of the piping jerseys forever, which i think this team is looking to do in the future.

It seems to me that the majority of the league, the biggest exception being Atlanta, is moving in a retro direction, a massive push back from the edge switchover where everything was meant to be new and futuristic. I think that's a great thing. If they could fix the hemlines, I think I could look into an RBK jersey someday...someday...

What I don't want to see is more baby blue. I've always loved the navy blue/baby blue color scheme ever since i saw the pens' past sweaters, especially the 76-79 models. Atlanta comes close, Pittsburgh brought it back with their third, and now Nashville is looking to take those reigns...ok, that's enough. Baby blue right now is what teal was to the 1990s, it's overly popular, and someone needs to put a stop to it. I'm hoping this jersey is primarily blue and gold, with a little bit of red.

Ok, i just noticed this, what's with the Panther logo doing the People's Eyebrow?

Nov 12 · 1:16 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterJonny W

Is it just me or does the colour look BLACK!

Nov 12 · 5:34 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterMike Ivall Design

Did you hear that? It was the sound of thousands of Floridians not giving a crap about hockey.

And welcome to the era of the circle logo. Reminds me not too long ago of when teams were using triangles all the time. Sharks, Ducks, Oilers (shoulder patch), Penguins (ok, they were long before the others) all had triangular logos.

Nov 12 · 6:42 AM PST | Unregistered Commenterryecatcher

@ Gary

If there is light blue, it will be coming from their sponsorship deal that was just announced with "JetBlue"

Nov 12 · 9:16 AM PST | Unregistered CommenterIan

I just realized that the eyes aren't even red. Looks like the red might remind them too much of Richard Zednik's blood.

Nov 12 · 2:00 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterGlen

Oh Boy. I Can't Wait To See The Disaster.

Nov 12 · 2:43 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterNoah Gretskey

will reserve judgment until i see the whole thing, but i am concerned with the apparent copycat scheme of the circular logo crest. Minnesota pulled it off great, St. Louis followed the mold well too, but now Florida's entry worries me. It even appears to follow a similar color scheme as the Blues jersey. Also with the reworked logo - I think the design is good, but I'm not sure about the coloring... but anyways, we'll find out for sure soon enough.

Nov 12 · 5:16 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterdownRupLYB

Logo looks nicer...

BUT HERE WE GO WITH ANOTHER NAVY BLUE JERSEY!!!! HOW ORIGINAL!!!!

Nov 12 · 5:18 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterHabitant

So many complaints! Granted, the circular logo is starting to become a copycat trend. However, there are only so many colours that a team can use before the jerseys stretch into the realm on ugly (California Golden Seals I'm looking in your direction!) This jersey has the potential to look really classy and traditional.

Nov 14 · 10:36 AM PST | Unregistered Commenterrhas2916

@rhasz

I do believe this jersey's design will no doubt be nicer than the ones they're using now. It will have a more traditional hockey jersey loog by keeping most of the design simple, but effective.

The logo is much nicer as well. Despite them using the same circular concept the St. Louis Blues have used for their 3rd (the logo with the team's city and name around it), I still feel that this logo is way better than that of the Panthers' logo since their expansion. I personally never was a fan of that logo.

My complaint is the dark blue color they seem to have used judging from that teaser picture. I just can't stand it how many teams are using black and dark blue as a jersey color. It's almost like they don't want to have a color scheme of their own and just want to blend in. I don't mind them using dark blue as part of the scheme, I just hate the fact it is the jersey's color.

My vote would have been to make this jersey the red they had when they first came in the league. Granted, red is also a color that is used by many teams (Montreal, New Jersey, Carolina, Ottawa, etc), but they are all different shades of red and each of them have a jersey design along with different colors to compliment the red that helps them stand out.

When the Panthers first arrived in the league, even though I wasn't a fan of the logo, I was a fan of their jerseys. Somehow, their jerseys captured a sort of tropical feel that embodied what Florida was: the Sunshine State.

I want different teams to show off something original about them. And the best way to show off the visual aspect of their representation is with their jerseys and logos.

Most of the league is missing artistic creativity.

Nov 15 · 1:25 PM PST | Unregistered CommenterHabitant

Why is it so difficult to design a nice uniform that fits with the public perception of what a team's brand is? The Panthers first uniforms were their best uniforms. Their first logo was their best logo. Why do they need to introduce a blue on blue uniform that looks like the Penguins colour scheme and a generic looking logo in a circle? The Panthers should wear red at home and ditch all that stupid piping. Everyone knows it.

It's also totally obvious that all the piping and bad designs from Reebok are there so that they can redesign these uniforms over and over and sell more jerseys. This is why teams like the Leafs have no hemstripes and the Oilers have ugly uniforms that look like nothing they've worn in their storied history. They know the fans expect these uniforms to look a certain way but they wont get them right the first time.
