I needed to take a breather after the nonstop third jersey coverage so I haven't been on top of my game (pun!). So tonight I'm going to run down a bunch of the things I've been meaning to post but haven't made the time to.
First, if you have three minutes to kill, can you name all 30 NHL teams? It's harder than it sounds and there's a fun quiz you might want to try. It's funny how when you're under the gun and relying solely on your memory, it can be quite difficult. I'm told the average is 22 teams. I managed all 30 with just 17 seconds to spare.
Hey Canadians, I'm going to be interviewing the designer of Team Canada's jerseys. If you would like to submit a question, you have 24 hours. Email it to me with "Questions for jersey designer" in the subject line. If you post it in a comment, I probably won't see it and it won't get addressed. To follow up on a previous post, that red jersey will be an alternate worn during the World Junior Championships.
And if you don't already know, wait until you hear where that particular shade of red comes from. The interview will be posted early next week.

The Las Vegas Sun says the ECHL's Wranglers will don special prison-themed jerseys on January 30 to mock the disgraced Rod Blagojevich. Don't ask me why the team from Nevada is screwing with the governor from Illinois but that's the way it is. Jeff sent in that nugget.
Following up on the NHL 09 third jerseys, it's been pointed out that a lot of other teams beyond just the Sabres have their fair share of inaccuracies, which also extend to NHL2K9. I don't really want to spend a lot of time on this subject because it doesn't really have anything to do with Icethetics.
I will suffice to say that it is just a video game and it's not uncommon for certain details to get lost in translation or get left behind entirely if they don't mesh with the programming. It's also possible that the producers of both video games were provided early drafts of the jerseys that were not yet finalized and then later changed. If you're buying a video game solely for the jerseys, you might want to rethink your priorities. Just saying.
Stephane writes in to point out that Carey Price has a new mask. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe he debuted it last week when the Montreal Canadiens wore their 1915 throwbacks for Centennial Jersey Night. See the picture to the left.
I'll say it again. I'm fascinated by what the Habs, Oilers and others are doing this season, going full force with the retro looks. There seem to be a number of vocal fans upset with the modernization of the look of hockey. This sort of thing should quell them somewhat.
For the rest of us, they are welcome blasts from the past that, if not overdone, should become an important staple of the sport.

Anytime I offer a time estimation, take it with a grain of salt. I may promise something one day then find I don't have the time to make it happen. Trust me when I tell you there's a lot I'm working on and I wish I could make Icethetics into a full-time job.
A new Concept Collage is imminent. We will finish the Flashback '98 tournament, so help me. I swear I will very soon post some sort of mechanism that will allow you guys to rank the 18 new third jerseys. New photo galleries are coming to display pictures of said jerseys. The Featured Artists section is looking more like a 2009 launch. And anything else I've said I plan on doing — I'm still planning on it. It's just going to take time so I appreciate your patience.
And completely unrelated to hockey, if you're looking for an unbelievable to new TV show to get into, check out Damages. Rent or buy season one then check out season two starting in January on FX (in the U.S.). That is all.

I got down to 20 seconds and blanked on the last two teams... I missed out on the Oilers and the Devils. I don't know how I managed that seeing that I cheer for the Oilers constantly and the Devils are in the same division as my Flyers. Anyways, I'm pleased with 28/30 on my first try.
IceHL? Same fate as WHA, USFL, XFL? Died before it even revealed all the teams, that could be a new record.

Actually, the XFL did have one complete season. Not sure about the WHA or USFL, but the Los Angeles team won the only XFL Championship.
I think i speak for most if not everyone when i say that we appreciate what you do, and we'd rather have many low-quality posts than a few really good posts. If you need to make things less technological in order to produce them faster (like the concepts collage...that has to take some real time to get right, perhaps the IceHL, etc), i think we'd all be perfectly ok with that. So don't kill yourself trying to get stuff out, we'll take whatever we get and be happy with it.

could someone please explain HOW carey price`s mask is different? that picture doesn't show it what-so-ever. and personally I think he should have gotten a mask with an oldschool mask painted on it so that it would go with the vintage pads. From a distance it would look more strikingly vintage if there was white on his face rather than blue and red.
oh, and my speculation as to the colour of Canada's third jersey? its the colour of blood. I saw a sign in sportchek that had a picture of that jersey on it and references to Canadian`s blood and passion that is put into the game of hockey
I watch almost every Habs game (Damn your Lightning, Chris!!!) and I haven't noticed anything different about Price's mask. Nothing has been mentioned about it over at Habs Inside/Out. They're usually on top of these things. It must be a pretty small change.
I'm pleased that Canada dropped the black third jersey but I'm still not digging the new white and red unveiled earlier this year (All though they're still better than the previous "modernization"). Maybe it's because they keep changing their sweater every couple of years and some of us can't afford to buy updates. I own the white jersey from 2002, their best jersey set in my opinion.

Sounds cool that you're going to interview the Canada jersey designer! I've got a few nagging questions for him... Oh, and I heard about those Wranglers prison jerseys earlier, because they are playing the Salmon Kings (hometown team). Very cool that they have the guts to poke at yet another disgraced politician! I'm also going to do that quiz.
Price's mask isn't new at all, its actually the first one he used in the NHL (aside from the white one he used in his first 10 some odd games). His first mask design, and the one he is currently using, is basically the same idea, but instead of gay country singers, it has a cowboy on a horse, and a guy riding a mechanical bull. Pretty much the only changes. Don't believe me, check it out on Getty Images, type in Carey Price, and compare the recent picks with the ones on page 12 from Nov 2007
Tonight, the Leafs and Sabres both wore their 3rd jerseys in the same game. I think that's the first time that has happened.

I got all 30 teams in 55 seconds, and I spent a good 10 seconds blanking out on the Maple Leafs (of all teams!). The trick is to memorize what teams are in each division and then just go through the league division by division. It's a lot easier to remember five teams at a time than 30 ;-)
It saddens me that the team most often forgotten (according to the quiz stats) is Nashville :-(
i got 27 teaMS on the first try. half way thru i realized you can save time by just typing the team name... city not necessary.
the easiest way for me was think of the teams alphabetically, since i used to spend so much time updating rosters on sega genesis NHL games, i pretty much have them down... however the 3 i missed were all C teams... Calgary, Colorado and Carolina! theres too many C teams! lol
I completed it with 1:54 remaining. It is definitely harder than it sounds, but as Daniel said, the trick is to remember the teams by division.
Pie.. made it easily with 1:34 left to go. Stuck on the Thrashers for about 30 seconds at the end haha.
i w as sooooo close i had nearly 1 minute and i forgot PITTSBURGH!!! from all teams! they are famous cause of Crosby and Malkin and i forgot them lol XD
