Habs Prep New Gear For Centennial

As part of their 100th anniversary celebration, the Montreal Canadiens will be wearing special Centennial Night jerseys throughout the season. Even better, players will be using special to gear to really give it that authentic look.

And by that I mean brown goalie pads.

On Tuesday, Habs Inside/Out was at practice and shot some photos of Jaroslav Halak and Carey Price breaking in their new gear.

Certainly something you don't see every day. That and the jersey on the right. IceJerseys.com has a great hi-res image of the new 1915 Centennial sweater. You can even buy one for the right price.

    Speaking of Price.

The first Centennial Jersey Night was October 20 when the Canadiens beat the Florida Panthers. Basically it was just an excuse to wear their white sweater at home which is why it didn't really get a mention here. The next one will be Saturday, November 15 when they will wear the 1945 white jersey.

That's going to be a busy night, by the way, in terms of jerseys. Both the Penguins and Canucks will debut their new alternates on that night — both of which we've already seen. The Pens officially unveiled theirs this week and the Canucks' has been leaking like crazy.

However, the 1915 Canadiens sweater seen above won't make it's 21st century debut until Thursday, December 4 when the Habs face the Rangers.

Very cool. It would be nice too if the goalies would wear a mask that looked like a Persons head to get it even closer.

Th 1945 white jersey is my all-time favorite Habs sweater. I'm hoping they'll use it as a third once all of the centennial celebrations are taken care of. The first time I ever saw it was in The Rocket Canadian Heritage commercial, maybe a decade ago. I've wanted one ever since. Hopefully one day when I'm not so poor lol.

That's freaking hot. I wonder if Price will ballsy it and go without a helmet for the game too.

Someone should start using pads like that all the time. I've got a vintage fever :)

That jersey is sweet. I speak both English and French and have followed hockey since the early 80-'s, however, I don't know what the A stands for. Any help?

Sweet goalie gear too! Price should paint his mask to look like an old Jacque Plant or Dryden mask.

JacketFan58 - The "A" stands for "Atheletique" (sp?) the "CA" logo represents when the team was known as the Club d'Athletique Canadien before the days of Club de Hockey Canadien. My french is bad, but I'm sure the idea will make sense haha. :)

Andy Moog was the first goalie to bring back the retro brown leather pads back in 1993, for those who remember (by now everyone had jersey matching equipment). He was with the Dallas Stars at the time. Not many people noticed. I thought it was awesome. He happens to be owner of VAUGHN equipment and I notice these pictures show Vaughn gear as well; makes me wonder if he had a hand in doing this. The pads jive much better with the Habs throwback theme, that's for sure. Very Cool.

Let's see if they have the balls to go whole-hog on the retro thing and wear white pants like they did during the early years of the club!
