News From The Northeast
Tuesday . 11 November 2008 . 11:50 AM For the record, I mean Northeast more as a geographical identifier than a division of the NHL because I'm starting with the Philadelphia Flyers.
You see, the Flyers sent out invitations to season ticket holders to their Meet The Team! event which takes place on Tuesday, November 18. Attendees are being offered the first opportunity to order the new orange third jersey. And on the invite are front and back pictures of the sweater.
One reader was nice enough to scan it and share it us. You'll note it includes the exact same images leaked by Icethetics last month.
Sorry about the watermark. It's there for security reasons. Thanks to Kevin for sending this in!
The Boston Bruins' new third jersey recently turned up on the back of a fan at a game at TD Banknorth Garden.
Why is this news? For one thing, the B's have yet to unveil their new third jersey let alone put it on sale. In fact, the unveiling isn't for another two weeks, at which point I would expect it to officially go on sale.
Jeff shot this blurry picture to the left and posted an account of how this man came to have it on his blog. Sounds like it has a lot to do with nepotism. What doesn't?
He also adds a mini-rant against the design of this sweater. And while I don't have the strong feelings he does, I do feel the Bruins dropped the ball. I'm not saying the yellow '90s third jersey was the best ever made, but it stood out and was very identifiable.
This is just another black jersey with a retro-looking logo on the front.
My last item of the morning involves the Buffalo Sabres. It appears that managing parter Larry Quinn has been publicly discussing the possibility of a full time return to the classic logo (seen to the left) for the club's 40th anniversary in 2010-11.
A post on Sabres Not Slugs quotes two message board comments regarding a recent radio interview with Quinn by WGR 550 SportsRadio. He was asked what the future might hold if the new third jerseys were well-received.
It was also suggested that the current primary logo might be relegated to third jersey status at that time. You can't get rid of it that easily.
What's not clear is whether this would be a permanent change beginning in 2010 or if the Sabres would simply adopt the classic sweaters for the 40th anniversary season only and then switch back to the current uniforms the following year.
So that's all for this morning. Hope it satisfies your itch for jersey news.

Is a team allowed to go retro for a full season and then switch back the next? I don't think the NHL would allow that. If the Sabres do change to the retro jersey for their anniversary I'd think it'd be more permanent, but I hope they don't because I like the slug better.
Usually WGR puts their audio archives up on there website so we are hoping to get minority owner Larry Quinn's remarks as soon as they are made avaiable here:

The funny thing how the Sabres are going to be making even more money righting the wrong here! I bet they love us shilling for the third logo/ jerseys now! Now they get to look like the geniuses who "had the idea all along" to bring back the classic logo.
Haha, I'm going to the Flyers meet the team again. I did last year, but there was no excitement of a third jersey last year =P I may order the new jersey there, but i usually wait till i go to a game to buy one. The Bruins jersey is too much like their current home jerseys, unfortunately and I'm hoping the Sabres surprise us with a new never-before-seen jersey or something of the sort.
Ever notice that the world is so much out of fresh ideas that the only thing to do is go retro. I'm all for retro, but lets see somthing diffrent from some of these teams. How many times do we have to see the sabers second guess there Logo and Jersey. I dont even like the retro look but i loved the White Bufflao Head, i bought that jersey before i even got my first leafs Jersey. I know every one likes all this Retro Classic stuff. Fights seem to start over it all this time on here, well maybe not fights. Another thing is if they do go with somthing new, Why does it have to be a dam Word across the Jersey. That thrashers one just forces people to get the numbers on it because thats all it is.It looks more like a long sleeve football jersey. There can only be one New York Rangers in this leauge not 4 or 5. i Still think the ducks just need to slap that D on there chest and thats it Im with everyone on that one. Im Really hoping the sharks Jersey is the best one to come. I have always liked there 3rd from the old round nose shark. The coyotes is a nice one too but the logo leaping makes is small becasue of space on the chest makes you wonder if there going to put numbers under that like the Thrahsers. The Bruins is lacking it reminds me of a black jersey for the BAD NEWS BEARS!
Maybe in the Future we will see jerseys with BUDS,HABS,PREDS, or even the YOTES. scripted on jerseys. I for one cant wait!........ NOT!
I like the Sabres third, and their retro look. The Buffaslug is hideous, and to be honest, the buffalo head wasn't that good either. Besides the fans want to go back to their original logo (not a Sabres-fan). They are the Sabres, not the Slugs. And altough there's a buffalo in their logo, they are not the Buffaloes.
Many of the teams are in a identity crisis because of the new Reebok jerseys. Many teams don't look anything like they're supposed, when teams like Devils, Red Wings, Rangers and Blackhawks have been loyal to their franchise.
Yes! I sure hope it's permanent, and just about everyone I know loves the classic logo best (Buffalo resident and fan).
would it be straight back to the vintage logo or would they use the third jersey logo from their new thirds? i would personally like to see the new third jersey logo be the primary for many years to come...
The faster the slug goes away the better. I'd like to see them bring back traditional striping too, but baby steps, I guess.
Good to see that the buffa-slug may be finally demoted from primary status! But why the heck would they keep that piece of garbage on as a third jersey? Buffalo fans have had enough of it from the day it was unveiled....
Hey, I got quoted on Icethetics! Cool!
Unfortunately, they've posted a later Schopp and the Bulldog audio clip already, so we may not get the interview in the audio vault to confirm. I sent them an email (or two ... or three ...) to try and get the interview in audio or written form.
Obviously, everyone knows where I stand on this deal. Get 'er done, Larry!!

That's just a small number, I can think of a lot more than just what you have listed. Hopefully you were just giving examples.
are you gonna change the flyers countdown now that they are unveiling it earilar
